From plastic bottles to drink cans, our beaches are becoming increasingly polluted, threatening both wildlife and the environment. That’s where beach cleans come in.

Here are some dates of beach cleans in Devon and Cornwall that you can pop in your diary!

Porthcurnick Beach Clean:

The Beach Clean at Porthcurnick, organised by the National Trust in Cornwall, is a hands-on opportunity to help preserve one of the region’s most picturesque coastal spots. Set against the stunning backdrop of Porthcurnick Beach, this event invites volunteers to tackle the litter that accumulates along the shoreline, ensuring the area remains unspoiled for both wildlife and visitors.

  • 2nd September 2024, 10:00am to 11:00am.
  • 7th October 2024, 10:00am to 11:00am.
  • 4th November 2024, 10:00am to 11:00am.
  • 2nd December 2024, 10:00am to 11:00am.
  • 6th January 2025, 10:00am to 11:00am.

Big Saunton Beach Clean:

Since its inception, this series of beach cleans has removed over four tonnes of rubbish from Saunton Sands, highlighting the persistent problem of plastic pollution along our coastline.

  • 15th September 2024, 11:00am to 13:00pm.
  • 27th October 2024, 11:00am to 13:00pm.
  • 8th December 2024, 11:00am to 13:00pm.
  • 12th January 2025, 11:00am to 13:00pm.

Silent Disco Beach Cleans at Woolacombe:

Hosted by the National Trust at Woolacombe. This event combines the fun and energy of a silent disco with the purpose of a beach clean, creating a unique experience for volunteers.

Participants are equipped with all equipment, allowing them to groove to a curated playlist while they work together to collect litter from beautiful Woolacombe beach.

  • 29th September 2024, 10:30am to 12:00pm.
  • 27th October 2024, 10:30am to 12:00pm.
  • 24th November 2024, 10:00am to 11:30am.

Great British Beach Cleans:

This is an annual event that invites thousands of volunteers to come together and clean beaches across the nation.

What sets the Great British Beach Clean apart is not just the scale, but the data collected during the clean-up. Every piece of litter picked up is recorded, helping to inform vital research on the state of our seas and influencing policies to reduce marine pollution.

  • Slapton Sands, Devon – 21st September 2024, 9:30am to 12:30pm.
  • Crooklets, Cornwall – 21st September 2024, 11:00am to 13:00pm.
  • Sand Bay, Somerset – 21st September 2024, 11:45am to 13:15pm.
